Ground conditions on the Oregon Coast

Coastal sites are dominated by moisture and sand. Our reports frequently record saturated soil interfering with radar, sandy ground near the surf, and properties built on fill where targets become undetectable. Former mill sites can carry sawdust contamination in the soil, which affects readings, and riverbank properties bring rip-rap that radar struggles to see through. Pressurised sewer lines are notoriously difficult to trace here, and rebar in driveways adds a further obstruction. Where conditions defeat radar, acoustic and electromagnetic methods usually carry the job.
