North Idaho Utility Marking Concerns Phone Numbers by County

If a utility line has been marked incorrectly, marks are missing, or paint and flags have been disturbed before you dig, contact the operator that owns the line. Each operator below lists a dedicated marking concerns number.

This listing covers the northern Idaho panhandle — Bonner, Boundary and Kootenai counties. These counties are served by Dig Safe North Idaho 811 on 800-428-4950, formed on 1 January 2026 when the Kootenai County Utilities Council and the Bonner Boundary Utility Coordinating Council merged. Benewah and Shoshone counties are served by North Idaho 811 on 866-242-5844, and the rest of Idaho by Digline on 800-342-1585. Those areas are not listed here.

Idaho requires not less than two business days nor more than ten business days notice before excavation, per Idaho Code 55-2205. White-line the path of excavation before the locate, and once marks are down the excavator is responsible for maintaining them.

Before you rely on this list

This is not a complete list of operators. Operators join, leave and change numbers, and some facilities are not registered with the one-call centre at all. Treat this as a reference for finding a number quickly, not as proof of who is present on your job site.

Your 811 ticket is the authority. The ticket lists every operator notified for your specific dig location, and you should use it to confirm that all of them have responded before you break ground. If an operator on your ticket has not responded, do not dig — contact them using the marking concerns number on the ticket itself.

What 811 will not mark

811 only marks public utilities up to the meter. Private lines past that point are the property owner's responsibility: electrical to shops, barns, well pumps and outbuildings, irrigation, septic lines, private water lines, gas to a pool heater or fire pit, and anything a previous owner installed. On acreage and rural property the private lines often outnumber the public ones.

Idaho also entitles you to standby compensation if you uncover a facility that was never located — capped at actual costs or $2,000 if the owner supplies the locate information within eight hours.
